Many people outfit themselves or their employees in uniforms because they want to look, well, uniform. But nobody wants to look completely identical to their coworkers. One of key ways to make yourself or your brand stand out is by adding some decoration elements to a uniform. There are a variety of options available out there for you to choose from. Below we outline the three most popular types of garment decoration and their respective pros and cons.
Embroidery is one of the most common decoration techniques used on uniforms. For example, it is common to see a chef coat with a restaurant’s logo and the chef’s name embroidered on the chest of the garment. In embroidery, designs are created using a needle and thread, and much of today’s embroidery is done by advanced automated embroidery machines. This is typically done directly onto the garment, one at a time. In general, embroidery is seen as a high quality way to decorate a garment because of the level of detail, depth, and dimension that the thread creates.
Prices are usually calculated by stitch count, so the more elaborate and large the embroidery the greater the cost. This makes it a good option for small embellishments such as a name or company logo. Embroidery looks great on chef coats, cook shirts, and industrial work shirts.
Screen printing is also extremely popular. Screen printing is the process of putting ink through a prepared screen to create a desired picture. The ink is directly put onto the garment. While screen printing is very common on clothing such as t-shirts, it is less popular for uniforms. One of these reasons is that screen printing usually requires significantly more set up, and it is much more costly to screen print single garments. Screen printing is a great value if you are customizing a large quantity of garments with the same design.
Emblems are another great decoration method. Often times, you can order a quantity of emblems and keep them on hand for when you need them. Many emblem suppliers stock popular names so you can order as needed when you hire employees. These are a great low cost option because you just attach the piece directly onto the garment. Emblems are typically embroidered, so they still have a high quality look.
There are a variety of ways you can make your uniform more unique to you or your business and show some flair! Have fun!
