Grease: No Longer the Enemy

Posted on September 12 2016

Being a Working Hero can sometimes mean working dirty. The men and women wearing our uniforms often encounter grease, oil, and grime on a daily basis while on the job. From splattered bacon grease on your chef coat to engine oil on your utility pants, these pesky stains can sometimes mean the end of the road for your precious uniform. But, with proper care of these stains, you can save yourself the headache and keep your clothes looking sharp every day of the week.

Here are some simple tips to help you get the grease out of your work uniform:

  • Pre-treat, pre-treat, pre-treat. We can’t stress enough how important it is to pre-treat the grease stain. Sprinkle some type of powder on the stain to absorb the grease. Powders such as baking soda or baby powder work great. Be sure to use liberally and completely cover the stain as you’ll want to make sure there is plenty of powder available to absorb the grease.  Leave the powder on the stain for approximately 30 minutes. Gently wipe off the powder after 30 minutes
  • Spot-clean. You can use laundry detergent for this, but be careful about putting colored detergent on white or light colored garments. Dish soap also works wonders on grease stains. Gently rub the soap in with your fingers and rinse thoroughly.
  • If the stain is still there, you can create a paste with baking soda and water. Apply the paste and allow it to dry completely. Gently remove the paste with a toothbrush or similar.
  • And of course, address the stains as early as possible. The longer they linger, the harder it will be to get the grease out of the fibers.

One of greatest benefits of a uniform is that it presents a clean, professional appearance. Don’t let inevitable stains get in the way of presenting a clean and professional appearance, and don’t throw away money replacing your uniform when you don’t have to. Follow these tips and keep looking good no matter how dirty you work!
